The Hornby Education Trust places emphasis on capacity building for English language tutors within low- and middle-income countries. It grants fully funded Master’s degree scholarships to educators and professionals with demonstrated experience and potential to positively influence the field of English language teaching and learning in their home countries.
For the September 2024 intake, up to ten (10) fully funded scholarships are available for eligible candidates meeting the University of Exeter’s admission criteria for the MEd TESOL Program. The Hornby education trust scholarships are open to academically accomplished and experienced applicants who are nationals of and employed in low and middle-income countries, as defined by the OECD DAC list.
Benefits
The scholarship package includes:
- Full tuition fees
- A stipend of at least £15,500 (dispersed monthly) to cover accommodation and living expenses (the exact stipend amount will be confirmed after the applicant has accepted the award).
- Return international travel costs*
*It encompasses one journey to the UK at the commencement of the course and one return journey to your home country at the conclusion of the course. An open return ticket is recommended.
Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be residents of and employed in a low or middle-income country according to the OECD DAC list.
- Possess a minimum of three years of full-time TESOL teaching or related professional experience after obtaining their first degree.
- Hold an undergraduate degree (with grades equivalent to UK upper 2nd class honors or higher) or a relevant postgraduate degree.
- First, submit a regular postgraduate application to the University of Exeter for the MEd TESOL program to receive an Exeter student number. Only then can applicants submit their Hornby Scholarship application, including the obtained student number.
Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified of their status for an interview by no later than April 15, 2024.
- Interviews will hold during the weeks commencing Monday, April 29, and Monday, May 6.
- Shortlisted candidates will be communicated concerning the final outcomes no later than May 22, 2024.
- Candidates on the shortlist will receive a reimbursement for the English Language test fee required for acceptance onto the MEd TESOL program (to be confirmed).
Method of Application
Interested applicants should initiate the process by completing the University of Exeter application form for admission to the MEd TESOL program. Applicants can proceed to complete the Hornby Scholarship application form once you have obtained an Exeter student number.
