The German Bundestag International Parliamentary Scholarships (IPS) is currently accepting scholarship applications from graduate students who are young Africans. The German Bundestag invites politically and socially committed young university graduates from southern Africa (Botswana, Namibia, South Africa), East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda), and West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal) to a scholarship program in Berlin in January.
The German Bundestag has been offering a scholarship program since 2020 for talented and politically interested young university graduates from sub-Saharan Africa. The program aims to provide insights into the German parliamentary system and political decision-making processes in the German Bundestag. It is targeted at individuals actively committed to basic democratic values in their home countries.
Program Details
- The program will take place from January 1st to 31st, 2025.
- It includes a one-week internship in the office of a member of the German Bundestag.
- Topics covered include parliamentary democracy, workings of parliament, plural society, protection of minorities, culture of remembrance, and more.
- Workshops on various subjects, such as corruption, intercultural training, and project management, are part of the program.
Scholarship Details
- Participants receive a scholarship of 700 euros.
- The scholarship covers free accommodation, travel costs to and from Berlin, and health, accident, and liability insurance.
Selection Criteria
- The scholarship program targets highly qualified, cosmopolitan, politically interested young people.
- Applicants must be citizens of Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda.
- Applicants must be under 30 years old at the start of the scholarship on January 1st.
- Completion of university studies, good knowledge of the German language (at least level B2), and a strong interest in political contexts and social/political commitment are essential.

- Letter of motivation in German with your handwritten signature
- Copy of passport or ID
- Degree certificate from the university
- Recent letter of recommendation in German or English
